Yash Kapta’s Shiv Tandav at Mood Indigo 2019 is wild, angry, and almost rebellious.
There’s a point in this performance where the energy becomes so unhinged that you can’t take your eyes off the stage even for a second.
Right from the opening beat, there’s this madness in the way he moves across the stage. The stomping footwork, the sharp turns, the expressions that look somewhere between fury and trance, everything carries this raw, untamed energy that makes it incredibly powerful.
Shiv Tandav is supposed to feel intense, destructive, and overwhelming. This act actually leans into those emotions instead of just recreating the aesthetic of the form. At multiple points, it genuinely feels like the performer is losing himself inside the depth of the piece.
Some movements land with such force that the entire stage starts feeling smaller around him. Then suddenly the performance pulls into stillness for a second, only to explode all over again with even more aggression. That constant push and release gives the act this almost chaotic rhythm that keeps building till the very end.
And the expressions completely sell it. The kind where the audience can no longer separate themselves from the energy they’re being presented with.
By the final stretch, the atmosphere in the room feels charged.
Not many performances manage to capture the fury and madness associated with Shiv Tandav this convincingly. This one absolutely does.
