Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect as little as we can get away with, we do not sell your data, and you can ask us to delete what we hold at any time.

Who we are

CULSEQ (culseq.com) publishes stories about campus creators and college culture in India. For the purposes of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, CULSEQ is the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described below.

What we collect

• When you fill in a form on this site (contact, partnership, fest submission, sign-ups): your name, email, and whatever else that particular form asks for, such as your college or social handle. We use it to reply to you and to follow up on what you asked about.
• When you subscribe to our mailer: your email address, so we can send it to you. Every mail has an unsubscribe link.
• When you comment: your name, email, and the comment itself.
• When you list a fest in our directory: the account and listing details you enter, which are published on the site by design.
• Automatically, when you read the site: standard analytics such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and the site that sent you here. This is aggregated and we do not use it to identify you personally.

Cookies and advertising

This site uses cookies to keep it working properly and to measure traffic. We carry advertising, and advertising partners may set their own cookies to measure whether an ad was seen or clicked. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may work less well if you do.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with the service providers who make the site run, and only as far as they need it: our hosting and publishing platform (WordPress.com / Automattic), our analytics and subscription tools, our form and directory plugins, and our advertising partners. Each of these has its own privacy policy. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

If you are under 18

Some of our readers are school and first-year college students. If you are under 18, please do not submit personal details through our forms without a parent or guardian’s consent. We do not knowingly build profiles of children, and we do not target advertising at users we know to be children. If you believe a child’s data has been submitted to us, write in and we will delete it.

How long we keep it

Form submissions and correspondence are kept as long as they are useful for the conversation they belong to, and then deleted. Mailer subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Published content, including fest listings and stories, stays up unless you ask us to take it down.

Your rights

You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and withdraw any consent you have given. You can also nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf. Write to us using the contact form, mark it Privacy, and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you may take it up with the Data Protection Board of India.

Changes to this policy

When we change how we handle data, we update this page and change the date below.
