How Did This Group Sound Like Surround Sound?
The first time we heard this Echo performance from Jesus and Mary College at Engifest 2020, we couldn’t help but marvel at how casually this group sounded like an entire soundtrack. From the beatboxing to the harmonies, this felt like a complete package of a performance.
The conductor is truly the cherry on the cake. He holds the entire group together like glue, effortlessly changing the energy of the piece with control. One second he’s controlling a whisper, next second the whole group explodes together like a movie climax.
And you surely couldn’t have missed that incredible transition in the middle. Pure goosebumps!
What makes a cappella performances like this so cool is that there’s so much happening, yet everything feels so seamless. We still can’t get over how these students managed to become a Dolby Atmos speaker system for 6 minutes straight?
