KScope Brings Its 2026 Edition to a Close
Sophia College’s Kaleidoscope 2026 came to a close on the 4th of October. With an array of events, competitions, and students in its Mumbai campus, the organising committee paid true homage to this year’s theme: Mehfil-e-Mumbai. We reached out to Mahika Mishra and Shambhavi Ghai from the event’s writing team for their perspective on this year’s fest, how the theme brought everything together, and what their experience was like.
The City in Motion
Mumbai, is a festival of brilliant chaos; its foundation built on inclusivity and reformation. The city is resilient; it never stops. We are resilient too, and when obstacles are unavoidable โ we adapt, overcome, and emerge like a phoenix, always rising from the ashes.
Youth festivals are a long-standing cultural cornerstone, celebrating music, art, and innovation, creating memorable experiences and championing emerging talent. Mumbai is a living, breathing metaphor for momentum and energy and the youth culture reflects exactly that.
In Mumbai’s youth culture, Kaleidoscope traditionally holds a significant position as one of the most renowned festivals. It is one of Mumbaiโs most beloved and visually creative festivals. It’s celebrated for its incredible campus decor, themed events, dance showdowns and attractive fashion shows. Kaleidoscope is entirely women-run; this positions it as one of the largest women-managed youth events in the country. It encapsulates within this rhythm the soul of Mumbai. We overcome challenges, arrive early and leave late, and we make the best of our days.
This yearโs Kaleidoscope theme is an homage to the cityโs unique ability to pull people together. Mumbai is the perfect theme because it holds true the spirit of the institution. It acknowledges the machinery, the underlying legacy that keeps us going even today. Many sleepless nights go into refining this spectacular fest. Time flies by, and we are so absorbed in the camaraderie, each doing their part โ laughing with each other, playful yet in no part letting their work be anything short of stellar.
It’s impossible to count every star that shines in the sky โ too many hard workers that shine brightly go unrecognised, however, working together with your peers is a joy of its own โ truly being a part of something bigger than you are. Even in the days of sweltering heat; or when suddenly a guest cancelled or a participant unexpectedly fell ill โ even if the events got delayed or had to be pushed forward; we all came together to ensure that the show went on. Itโs an experience of transformation, adapting and learning, and re-learning too: how to navigate the college hallways as we set up for Kaleidoscope, how to work in teams and in coordinate, and making calls and getting everything ready, working with judges and participants – the sheer amount that gets done in the months leading up to this event.
It perfectly captures the transformation of Sophia’s campus into something larger than life; it goes home with us, and with everyone who attends. A piece; a memory of this collective experience of being at Kaleidoscope – not just the workforce and participants, but the ones who attend as well; they, too, help bring it to life. Finally, as the mehfil glides to an end, we will pick up the pieces, pull down the decorations, and pack up the equipment โ as if it were all a distant dream; and yet when autumn months roll by next year, the memories come rushing back, and the heart flourishes, like when one returns to Mumbai, no matter how long it has been, it still feels like home.
